The Australia Torch Coral is a premium large-polyp stony (LPS) coral, revered for its long, flowing tentacles and striking coloration. Australian strains are especially prized for their vibrant gold, neon green, purple, or bi-color tips. Under actinic or blue-dominant lighting, this torch coral glows with electric intensity, making it a showstopper in any reef aquarium. Ideal for both seasoned collectors and reefers looking to level up their Euphyllia game.

Care Guide:

Tank Size:
Best suited for medium to large reef tanks (30+ gallons), but can be kept in well-maintained nanos with adequate flow and stability.

Temperament:
Aggressive – extends long sweeping tentacles that can sting nearby corals. Requires space from other species.

Lighting:
Moderate to high (PAR 120–250). Blue-dominant spectrum enhances fluorescence and tip coloration.

Flow:
Moderate and indirect – promotes gentle swaying without damaging the tissue. Avoid direct blasting.

Placement:
Mid to lower regions of the tank with space to extend.
Do not place too close to other corals due to aggressive sweepers.

Feeding:
Photosynthetic via zooxanthellae but benefits from supplemental feeding 1–2x weekly:

  • Reef Roids or powdered coral foods

  • Mysis or brine shrimp (target-fed with caution)

  • Amino acid supplements

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 76–78°F (24–26°C)

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Salinity: 1.025–1.026

  • Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH

  • Calcium: 420–460 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm

  • Nitrate & Phosphate: Low but detectable (NO₃: 5–10 ppm, PO₄: 0.03–0.08 ppm)

Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Can be grouped with other torch corals of the same species but with cation and should be kept away from non-Euphyllia LPS and softies.
Pairs well with frogspawn and hammer corals if spaced properly.

Special Considerations:

  • Long Stinging Tentacles: Torch corals have long stinging tentacles. Be sure to give 3–6 inches of space to prevent damage to nearby livestock.

  • Stability is Key: Sensitive to sudden shifts in alkalinity or salinity—stable conditions will keep tissue plump and healthy.

  • Coloration: Best coloration achieved with high-quality LED lighting and consistent trace element dosing.

Summary:

The Australia Torch Coral delivers dramatic movement, vibrant color, and bold personality to any reef tank. With proper flow, lighting, and space, this Euphyllia thrives and becomes a center-stage showpiece. Perfect for intermediate to advanced reefers who appreciate the beauty and presence of a true Aussie gem.
