Introducing the Tiger Sand Conch: An Exceptional Addition to Your Cleanup Crew
Meet the Tiger Sand Conch, scientifically identified as Strombus sp., a highly esteemed conch originating from the Eastern Pacific Ocean. When it comes to enhancing your aquarium's cleanup crew, this remarkable species excels at diligently maintaining the cleanliness and aeration of your sand bed. You'll be intrigued to learn that these conchs occasionally retreat into the sand bottom, sometimes for extended periods, even months.
Known for its reef-friendly nature, this peaceful conch typically coexists harmoniously with corals, preferring to stay close to the tank bottom. The Tiger Sand Conch stands out as a robust sand sifter that won't disrupt the beneficial sand microfauna or the bacterial microzones within your sand bed.
These delightful conchs have become a fixture in all my tanks, thanks to their sand-sifting habits and their entertaining presence. Imagine this: they boast two long eyestalks extending from their shells, continuously surveilling their surroundings. These eyestalks resemble tentacles with eyes perched on top, reminiscent of Gary the snail from Spongebob Squarepants.
Tiger conchs primarily subsist on detritus found within or on the sand, in addition to tidying up leftover food and algae. It's advisable to keep a single tiger conch in your tank, as males tend to engage in territorial disputes. In larger aquariums, you may consider accommodating multiple tiger conchs, provided there's ample space for each to establish its territory. These captivating creatures can grow up to three inches in length, making them suitable for tanks with a minimum size of 20 gallons per individual.
Also recognized as Strawberry Conchs, these diligent cleaners and substrate stirrers can occasionally be offered fish flakes as a supplement. They are a hardy species, thriving best in tanks that have completed the cycling process for at least a month. Conchs possess a trunk-like mouth and long, independently movable eyestalks, setting them apart as fascinating creatures to observe. Their heightened sensitivity to movement, often reacting to your presence or sudden motions near the aquarium, sets them apart from typical marine snails. Please note that our inventory encompasses both Strombus luhuanus and Conomurex decorus under this listing.
